Only two women's boxing world title bouts have ever been held in Louisiana, and both involved Lafayette-based fighters.

The first came 10 years ago when Deirdre Gogarty won the International Boxing Federation featherweight crown from Bonnie Canino in New Orleans. The second will come on Nov. 24 when Lafayette's Kasha Chamblin takes on Ada Velez of Hollywood, Fla., for the International Boxing Association junior featherweight title at Paragon Casino and Resort in Marksville.

At least four other bouts will be on the Nov. 24 card at Marksville's Paragon Casino and Resort, including middleweight prospect Mike Martinez (4-2, 2 KOs) of Snyder, Texas, in a six-rounder against veteran Joshua Smith (17-35-1, 11 KOs) of Nashville, Tenn.

Middleweight Yvonne Reis (6-12-1, 2 KOs) of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., a stablemate of main-eventer Ada Velez, who has fought for five world middleweight crowns, will be in action against an opponent to be named. Also on the card are 6-foot-8 heavyweight Skip Scott (0-1) of Houston and Alexandria lightweight product Heath Nichols (5-1) against opponents to be named.

Tickets are $30 reserved and $100 for VIP tickets and are available at Cypress Knees gift shop at Paragon Casino, through TicketMaster outlets or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
