GLEN JOHNSON: "IT'S TIME TO GIVE HIM HIS WHOOPIN'..."

By Angel Colon | October 15, 2007

FightHype.com spoke to former light heavyweight champion Glen Johnson about his upcoming clash with Reggie Johnson and much more. You don't want to miss what he had to say about Chad Dawson, Antonio Tarver and Roy Jones Jr. as he believes that he's "the baddest man walking" since none of the big names in the light heavyweight division are willing to face him. Check it out!

AC: It looks like you just recently signed for a fight. Why don't you tell us a little bit about that Glen.

GJ: I'm fighting Reggie Johnson. It's a fight that I'm looking forward to and I'm very excited about this fight. Reggie has been chasing me for about 2 years so I feel it's time to give him his whoopin' since he's been chasing me all this time.

AC: Looks like the fight is going to be on November 17th in Louisiana. How do you see the fight playing out?

GJ: Well I believe Reggie Johnson is a great fighter. He's had a very successful career, but right now, I'm just the baddest man walking on two feet. I don't see anybody touching me in the light heavyweight division. I'm going to go out there and establish myself and take him out of there as soon as possible.

AC: You're also the IBF mandatory, a title held by Clinton Woods. Woods recently defeated Julio Gonzalez to retain that title. Is Woods the fight you're looking to pursue? what direction do you see yourself going in after your upcoming fight?

GJ: I'm not looking past Reggie Johnson, but I'm looking forward to getting my IBF title from Clinton Woods and moving on to bigger and better things. Right now, all the other light heavyweight champions are afraid of me, including Clinton Woods, and that'll be proved by how long it's going to take to step up and take on the challenge. You have seven months to make the deal and he's going to take every second. That's just another statement of how bad these guys are afraid of me. I can't get Roy Jones in the ring. I can't get Tarver in the ring and I certainly can't get Chad Dawson in the ring so I just have to wait for my turn at the IBF and as soon as I get that title, we'll see if anybody has any courage to step up and challenge me for that title.

AC: At this point in your career, do you feel as if you must win that title in order to get those bigger fights?

GJ: Yeah, definitely. I certainly can't get these guys in the ring any other way, I believe. Even with the IBF title, it's not guaranteed because a guy isn't going to jump through the roof to get an ass whoopin.

AC: Antonio Tarver has a date on December 1st with Danny Green and Roy Jones Jr. has a date with Felix Trinidad on January 19th. Chad Dawson just recently defended his title and currently doesn't have a date set for his next fight. Does that make Chad Dawson your #1 priority to make a fight with or do you prefer fighting Clinton Woods for the IBF title?

GJ: For me, it's the fight that's available. I figure there's no fighter out there that I need protection from so I'm the guy that's available to fight every and anybody. The only thing that stops a fight with me and any other fighter is the other fighter and Chad Dawon, they've been talking about a fight with me and him. The Showtime announcers have been talking about that fight, but still no offer has come my way. If they want to do it, I'm ready and willing.

AC: It seems that there was a fight being talked about between you and Anthony Hanshaw. What happened with that?

GJ: I couldn't tell you anything about that fight. I found out about that fight on the internet and I got a phone call saying that "I heard you're fighting." I said, "No, where did you hear that from?" They said, "the internet." We got in touch with the promoter and talked, but I assume nothing was able to work out and we went somewhere else. We've been working on the Reggie Johnson fight for a little bit so we gave them (Hanshaw's people) a deadline if we were going to do something. They didn't step up to the plate and do it so we went ahead and made the Reggie Johnson fight.

AC: Thank you for your time Glen. Is there anything you'd like to say to the fans in closing?

GJ: Yes. They can run and they can hide. I'm searching them out and if they trip while I'm chasing them, I'm all over them!
