GUIDRY WINS FOURTH WORLD
MASTERS BOXING TITLE!!!
Seventy four year-old Lafayette, Louisiana native Ronald Guidry, of the Ragin' Cajun boxing Club, won the middleweight (165 lb.) championship of the World Ringside Boxing Tournament for the third year in a row. Guidry has won this championship four times in the past five years.
Guidry defeated Paul Soucy of Detroit, Michigan by unanimous three-round decision. In round one Guidry dropped Soucy for an eight count, when he landed a hard left hook to Soucy's jaw. After beating the eight count, Soucy fought a totally defensive, survival type of fight, and seemed to be just trying to survive till the final bell.
"I am very excited about winning this championship again, and hope to be able to compete again in 2012. This was the third time Soucy and I have fought in the finals and he is a tough guy. Those guys from Detroit were telling me that Soucy was going to take me out this year and prove that Detroit boxers are the very best. My suggestion to them is to abandon the Kronk Gym and come down to the Ragin' Cajun Boxing Club and really learn how to box" said a smiling Guidry.
