![]() with Kerry Daigle WHAT IS YOUR MISSION STATEMENT (PLANS)? That made so much sense. If you wanted to start a business and you went to your local banker and applied for a business loan the first thing the loan officer would ask you for is your written business plan, wouldn't they? Do the bankers think you are going to follow this plan step by step? Possibly and possibly not as your business will take unexpected turns as the market changes as does the economy. The main reason is for YOU to go through the process of thinking about your business in an organized fashion and to look at your thoughts on paper......written down. Have you thought of who your client/customer is? How will your client or customer find you? Why do you feel your product separates you from the rest of the marketplace? How large is your market? How will you service your clients/customers for referral business? Bankers will want to look at your dreams in writing and will look at your mission statement on how you plan on answering these types of questions so you can be fully prepared. So why is this so important? It's really simple. Writing a plan and 'sticking to it' the best you can will create an energy that will amaze you and help you to reach those dreams and make them reality. Just saying "2006 is going to be a great year" is not good enough. You must have a written plan and mission statement. You wouldn't decide to drive to Chicago tomorrow morning without a plan (map) would you? It is the same analogy. Know exactly where you are going and have a written plan to get there. When you write your plan down it actually takes on an enthusiastic life of its own. It becomes clear in your mind exactly what you want to do. It also becomes clear for the others involved with your plan such as your banker, business partners, and people you choose to work with you. About 10 years ago two studies were conducted by Massachusetts Mutual and AT&T that concluded only 40% of businesses had written business plans and they were the businesses that succeeded. Makes sense to me! They drew their 'map' to success and wrote down a business plan to 'take' them to their destination. I would then suggest to you that you continue to dream and write a second plan for you personally. Dreams can turn into fairy tales and then into miracles if you take them seriously. Take some time out and write down exactly what you would do if you knew you could not fail. I learned all this from my first mentors, Maw Maw and Paw Paw Daigle in my early teens. Write down exactly what you would want your personality to be like...your house..your family...your business. Be specific and not vague. In other words don't say, "I want a big house" but instead write down exactly what your house will look like. 'a study..4 bedrooms..a courtyard.etc.' Be detailed and very specific. You've heard the old saying, "Be careful what you wish for because you may just get it!" That is very true. Many times your 'dreams' might not come exactly true but you will be surprised how close they can come to reality with a written business plan and a written personal plan. Have a journal to record this information. Take the steps NOW to write a mission statement for your business and secondly for your personal life. No matter what anyone tells you, follow your dreams. Follow your heart. Write down ten to fifteen steps to implement both mission statements. Be very specific as you write these down. Be specific on how you plan to achieve the steps on your mission statement and watch how your dreams start turning into reality. In writing these things down it may take some time. Don't get discouraged if this takes you a long time to do so. It should as it is a map to plan your life. Write down those dreams. Believe in yourself. Avoid negativities. Believe me, they can come true. I know. My mentors did the same for themselves and then taught me to follow a plan. I remember it all started with Maw Maw and Paw Paw. I'm so glad I listened. So the question arises. Do you have the courage to write down your dreams into plans of action? This is what will separate you from those who only talk about their plans and dreams. Let me know how things are going for you! I'll be glad to listen. KEEP PUNCHING!
