KEEP PUNCHING
Well, Christmas
is upon us again and I thought it would be appropriate for me to
write Santa Clause a letter. Santa does so much for all
of us……..bringing joy to the faces of little children.
Sometimes he puts us all to work preparing for his trip to our
home but it really is worth it. After all it’s not for us …………but
for the children of the world.
with Kerry Daigle Thank You Santa Claus Here is my letter to Santa. Dear Santa: Looks like everyone is starting to really feel the pressure of getting ready for your arrival during the Christmas holidays. It’s going to be a long flight for you. I am certain Rudolph and the reindeer are resting and getting ready for miles of flying from the North Pole. I bet the elves are busy too and really tired from working long hours making all the toys for all the kids all over the world. Sometimes I wonder how you do it. I’m also sure Mrs. Clause is tired just trying to keep the elves fed. I bet they can eat. Good thing they are there to help the two of you, Santa. I know the FAA is making lots of changes in flights throughout the world. Times have really changed things. I am certain that takes a toll on you but you always come through. That is the thing about you, Santa……you never let anything or anyone get you down. Who says laughter and being jolly never helps someone with their health? I know you haven’t lost any weight but you still are as healthy as anyone can wish for!!……….Must have something to do with having a great attitude. We can probably all learn from you about attitude and also being grateful. You’ve taught my grandfather, Paw Paw Daigle, who taught me that no matter what I might be feeling about events in my life to not be manipulated by bad thoughts but to always feel deeply grateful for the opportunity to be alive at the moment and that it is always better to ‘give’ than ‘receive’. And you also said, according to Paw Paw Daigle, that giving would come back to us in positive ways 10 times. I guess that’s why you work so hard GIVING as much as you do every year at this time. We are so grateful for what we learned from you. It’s literally changed my life and many people around me. I know you are aware my daughter, Angela, is adopted. We were fortunate to have her come into our lives a little over 5 years ago. She’s eleven years old now and quite a young woman. This is her fifth Christmas with us. She never had a chance to meet you until she was six. That’s when you came down the chimney and into her bedroom and left all those toys in her room and next to the fireplace. She still talks to everyone about those wonderful gifts she received and your generosity. In fact today she was bragging to her friends about you coming over again. You sure have a fan in her. It is amazing you devote your life to pleasing the little ones like Angela and you know exactly where to find these young children. We appreciate you for that. It’s funny how Angela’s friends are networking your name and telling the same remarkable stories about how you deliver those wonderful playthings keeping them all contented. They still are asking, “How does Santa get in the house….some people don’t have chimneys?” We all know that you always find a way in …….especially for all these children. Oh, and Santa…….don’t worry about what happened last year when you spilled the glass of milk on the fireplace. I know you were probably tired with all the stops you made. In fact, Angela said this year she was going to put a ‘lid’ on the glass and make certain if you did knock it over it wouldn’t spill and yes, she wanted to put out some extra cookies. After all, last year you were so good to her. I know you need to get your rest because this Christmas season is going to be a really busy one. I’m sure after reading this letter you are going to pack your sleigh and feed all the reindeer. I know your schedule is extremely tight knowing you have to visit each household before the light of Christmas Day covering the world and doing it all so quickly. It is amazing the rate of speed you work. It must be stressful dropping off all these gifts and then filling up the stockings too. I’ve always wondered how you handled the stress coming from the children’s letters who changed their minds at the last minute about what they wanted for Christmas. You sure make our jobs as parents very enlightening as we see the smiles on our children’s faces. I’m so glad that even though some kids don’t believe in you that I never stopped believing in you. I know you’re there and doing all you can for all the kids in the world. You’ve got a really tough job. Be sure to tell Mrs. Claus we appreciate her giving you away during Christmas. I’m sure by now you probably have some new navigator satellite system linked up to your sleigh so you don’t get lost. The Christmas music is going to be playing and the Christmas trees are being lit up as it gets close to flight time for you. I can just see Rudolph happy and enthusiastic about the flight and his nose glowing bright red leading the way for you even in bad weather. The bells will be ringing…….and elves will be marching……and we will hear Christmas Carols sung all over the world. I’m going to tuck Angela in early Christmas Eve night to
give you more time to do your work. We just want to tell you how
much you mean to us. When I look back on my childhood, Santa, and
see how incredibly my childhood has been created into “chapters
of life” and how I have picked up all these lessons about ‘giving’ to
others from you……and also about being jolly……..saying……HO
HO HO once in a while. That has taken me from the dark corners
of my life and now I can transfer that to my daughter. You have
given all of us a new meaning for the feeling of ‘life’ by
teaching us how to offer a quality of life to others by giving. P.S. Santa…….thanks for teaching me to always Keep Punching! |
