In Rusty's Corner

Arturo Gatti fought through the pain of a damaged right hand again to take on and beat
previously undefeated Thomas Damgaard of Denmark, stopping Damgaard in round eleven after
handing out a substantial beating. |

Gatti - Damgaard: a throwback, a classic battle!
1/29/06 - Mike Indri
People were questioning Arturo Gatti, and what he had left; there were also questions about
Thomas Damgaard, and his abilities. Both fighters answered for themselves in a dramatic
way during their International Boxing Association (IBA) welterweight championship battle. |

Virgil Hill.a champion once again.
1/28/06 - Mike Indri
Experience, commitment and "heart" pave way to WBA belt!
"I was shocked at how well he (Hill) moved for a forty-two year
old guy," stated beaten and previously undefeated Russian cruiserweight Valery Brudov.
Brudov (now 30-1, with 23 KO's) was not alone. |

Great PPV fight last Saturday on HBO. As predicted here (and most other places) it
was well worth the cost.
Manny Pacquiao, moved up in weight and carried his big punch with him, knocking out
Erik Morales in the 10th round. It marked the first time in his pro career that
Morales has lost two fights in a row. |

Arturo Gatti is back! Thomas "Lionheart" Damgaard better be "damn-good".
1/26/06 - Mike Indri
Today's press conference was jam packed, as will be his fight at the Boardwalk Hall
in Atlantic City this Saturday night; which suggests one thing.Arturo Gatti is back.
While the extremely popular fighter was dethroned of his WBC Light Welterweight
championship this past June by Floyd Mayweather, it's obvious that Gatti still
holds his title as boxing's most beloved and exciting fighter. |

Erik Morales and Manny Pacquiao face off on Saturday at the Thomas and Mack Center on the
campus of UNLV, on Saturday evening.
Don't be shocked if an all out war breaks out. |

Rahman vs. Toney: a big win for the boxing fan!
1/13/06 - Mike Indri
WBC heavyweight title fight to be seen on HBO - no PPV.
If boxing fans wanted to watch Jameel McCline getting embarrassed against Zuri Lawrence
(not a bad fighter, yet no knockouts in 34 fights says everything), or David Tua escape
his last bout (vs. Cisse Salif: 10/21/05) with a very "friendly" split-decision win, or
Shannon Briggs feasting on hand picked opposition along his comeback trail, or even Lance
Whitaker.yes, Lance Whitaker; they had to pay for it. |

Just returned from LA, where I addressed the Golden State Boxers Assn. I saw a number
of old friends, and made many new members of my family. To me, all boxing people are my family.
On hand was Ray Mancini, Bobby Chacon, Gwen Adair and Mando Ramos to name a few. As well as other
friends like David Martinez and Ray Luna. It's good to see your friends more than once a year,
particularly as we grow older. |

Broussard set for Feb. 4 IBU title showdown
1/08/06 - Dan McDonald
Lafayette's "Bad" Chad Broussard didn't have to wait too long to realize a dream.
Broussard won the International Boxing Union's Intercontinental welterweight title last
June at Blackham Coliseum, and said at the time he wanted to fight for a world title in his hometown.
Eight months later, he'll get that opportunity as part of a professional boxing card scheduled for
Feb. 4 at Blackham and staged by Lafayette's Culotta Promotions. |

It's "Undisputed", Zab wasn't super!
1/08/06 - Mike Indri
The stage was set. The Theater at Madison Square Garden would play host to Zab Judah's
mandatory World Boxing Council welterweight title defense against light hitting Carlos
Baldomir, almost a 15-1 betting underdog, in a fight that would amount to presumably
nothing more than a mere prelude to the undisputed welterweight champion's tentatively
scheduled mega-fight against boxing's pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. |

First, allow me to wish each and every one of you the very best that the year 2006 can offer.
There are some great fights that should take place this year, although they probably won't be
in the heavyweight division. While you don't need great fighters to make great fights, I can't
see any possible match-ups this year that could excite me. |
