Peter knocks out Julius "didn't last too" Long       4/30/06 - Mike Indri
"Nigerian Nightmare" picks up NABF title belt on ESPN2.
Heavyweight contender Samuel "The Nigerian Nightmare" Peter made quick work of his overmatched opponent Julius Long, dropping the seven foot Michigan fighter twice en route to a first round knockout win.

Wladimir Klitschko regained the heavyweight title in a very easy seven round stoppage of Chris Byrd, in Germany on Saturday.
The Europeans (Russians) are currently dominating today's heavyweight division and deservedly so. Except for Hasim Rahman and James Toney, the heavyweight class in America has shown no signs of coming to life anytime soon. Sam Peter can fight and punch, but like David Tua, is not from the U.S. and does not seem tall enough to compete with the really big heavys.

Cedric Kushner, a lot smaller, returns in a BIG way!       4/25/06 - Mike Indri
"Gotham Boxing" to debut on May 24th- featuring Shannon Briggs.
With the prideful beam of a very healthful 217 pound man, Cedric Kushner spoke Tuesday at a jam-packed press conference at the elegant and rather upscale Palm restaurant in New York City, announcing the official launch of his new boxing promotional company, aptly titled "Gotham Boxing".

Audley Harrison, the Olympic Champ from the UK who never got the crowds excited as a pro, probably never will. He just doesn't seem to have heart and confidence and those to traits are needed to make a mark in the pro boxing world. Dominic Guinn, despite the height and reach difference won a solid decision from his taller foe.

In Rusty's Corner       4/11/06 - Rusty Rubin
Audley Harrison and Dominic Guinn face off this week, two guys who are badly in need of a shot of confidence. I doubt this fight will help either on that end, but I'll pick Harrison by unanimous decision, only because of the height/reach advantage...
Joe Mesi, won his comeback fight against a poor opponent, but you have to feel that the return to the ring speaks of a major accident waiting to happen, something neither Mesi nor boxing needs.

In Rusty's Corner       4/05/06 - Rusty Rubin
Three boxers from Santa Clara University (Cal.) were suspended for testing positive for anabolic steroids. Steroid use in all sports should be banned and those caught using must be severely punished. It's not anti Barry Bonds or Mark McGuire or anyone else, it's to keep our sport pure.

Sherman Williams Wins NBA World Title With 3rd Round KO                          4/01/06 - Rob RussenRob Russen
Tampa, FL (Mar 31) - Looking to put his claim in as one of the best heavyweights in the world Sherman Williams scored a third round knockout over David Na'il of Fayetteville, NC. After an even first round Williams took control and knocked Na'il down in the second before closing the fight with a vicious right had that had Na'il down for the count.
