The Bayou Bomber is more than ready to return to competition
      4/30/07 - Tom Dodge
LAFAYETTE - He has been out of the boxing ring since August 2006 when he knocked out Tyrone Wiggins in the third round at the Paragon Casino in Marksville, LA.
But it hasn’t been because Bobby Aucoin didn’t want to fight. It has been hard to find willing opponents.
At 18-0-1, the Bayou Bomber is more than ready return to competition, fighting in the 140-pound division as a Junior Welterweight.
Aucoin will return to the ring on May 12 at the Paragon against unnamed foe.
“I am ready to get back in there and hopefully go for a major title before the end of the year.
“Whenever I am ready for the title fight, it doesn’t matter who it is, I will fight them.
“If I keep training hard and keep doing what I am doing, then it will come sooner or later,” he said of the possible title fight. “Whenever we get the shot, we are going to go for it.”
“Bobby is a Spartan,” manager Kerry Daigle said of his boxer, “with his mental attitude along with his tremendous physical conditioning - he is a very dangerous guy to fight.”
Will the layoff hurt Aucoin?
Not according to his manager.
“You are going see a very hungry fighter and a guy that want to perform,” Daigle said. “There are pros and cons about a layoff - but I know we are going to see an outstanding fight in Bobby Aucoin.
Daigle added that Aucoin will be ready to immediately test someone for a title after his upcoming bout at the Paragon.
“We are negotiating to put these fights in a more neutral area where everyone gets a fair shake and then flip a coin and let it go,” Daigle said. “He is right on the verge of another title fight this year.
“He already has a United States Junior Welterweight championship,” Daigle pointed out. “I think there are bigger U. S. and North American titles for his to conquer and those are the titles we are looking at right now. Those titles would put him in the Top Ten in the world.”
The delay hasn’t affected his skills, according to trainer and father Bobby Aucoin Sr.
“I don’t like the fact that he hasn’t fought in 10 months,” the trainer stated. “I would have liked him to stay active, fighting every three to four months.

Knockout night scheduled at Paragon

Pugilists Bobby Aucoin, Kasha Chamblin to return to ring May 12
Acadiana's two most successful active professional boxers will return to the ring after extended absences on Saturday, May 12.
Bobby "The Bayou Bomber" Aucoin of Scott and Kasha "The Fighting Marine" Chamblin will both appear on the "Redemption or Retirement" card scheduled that night at the Paragon Casino Resort's Mari Center in Marksville.

He is known as “Lil Rocky,” a fighter with a powerful punch.
      4/28/07 - Tom Dodge
On May 12th at the Paragon Casino Resort, Alexandria’s Heath Nichols will fight as part of the Redemption or Retirement card that also features Juan de la Rosa battling Mikel Williams and co main event Bobby Aucoin putting his undefeated record on the line.
Nichols has won his first three fights with second round TKOs in the scheduled four round bouts.

Chagaev Changes Heavyweight Picture & Freitas-Diaz Preview
      4/27/07 - Jim Amato
Ruslan Chagaev's victory over Nickolay Valuev to capture the WBA version of the title could be the start of a chain reaction that may change the whole landscape of the heavyweight picture.
This Saturday at The Foxwoods in Connecticut there will be a lightweight unification fight between WBO title holder Acelino Freitas and WBA kingpin Juan Diaz. Freitas of Brazil was a long time WBO Super Featherweight champion.

Holt stifles Arnaoutis-title shot next!
      4/26/07 - Mike Indri
Commanding win sets up fight with WBO Champ Torres.
No one had to tell Kendall Holt the importance of his WBO jr. welterweight title fight eliminator bout against the rugged and dangerous "Mighty" Mike Arnaoutis.

The “Fighting Marine” ready for return assault
      4/26/07 - Tom Dodge
She is more than ready to get back in the ring.
Kasha Chamblin returns May 12th at the Paragon Casino Resort as part of the Redemption or Retirement card that also features Juan de la Rosa battling Mikel Williams and co main event Bobby Aucoin putting his undefeated record on the line.

Baptism Under Fire
      4/25/07 - Jim Amato
There is a point in the career of almost every world class fighter in which he must test his skills against the elite of his profession. It is when they find out if they have what it takes or are they going to fall short of the mark. Recently Peter Manfredo Jr. failed in his baptism under fire when he faced the talented Joe Calzaghe.

Task Force on Weight Loss prior to Boxing Matches
      4/23/07 - Tim Lueckenhoff
In January of 2007, the Association of Boxing Commissions commissioned a Task Force to study the issue of weight loss prior to boxing matches held within the United States and Canada.
The Task Force, which was Chaired by Michael Mazzulli, Director of the Mohegan Tribal Department of Athletic Regulation was comprised of Commission Administrators, Commission Members, and American Association Professional Ringside Physicians Association.

While his opponent is looking for redemption,
Mikel Williams is fighting for a little more respect.

      4/22/07 - Tom Dodge
On May 12th at the Paragon Casino Resort in Marksville, a professional boxing show will transpire that could potentially change the direction of one of two fighters in the main event.
Juan De la Rosa, a former fighter from THE CONTENDER series television show produced by Sylvester Stallone and Sugar Ray Leonard, with a professional record of 17 wins, 1 defeat, and 1 draw, will face a fighter with a losing record, Mikel Williams, who owns a record of only 7 wins against 18 defeats with 4 draws.

De la Rosa at crossroads in his young career
      4/21/07 - Tom Dodge
It is difficult to believe that at 20 years of age, Juan de la Rosa is facing the fight of his life May 12 at Paragon Casino Resort's Mari Center in Marksville.
De la Rosa, from Harlingen, Texas, is 17-1-1 as a professional and is a strong prospect in his weight class.
That one loss was to Mikel Williams, a 23-year-old from Monroe who is 7-18-4 as a pro.

Chagaev wins & Amos Lincoln
      4/21/07 - Jim Amato
Rocky's record is safe but I almost have to feel for previously undefeated Nickolay Valuev. Challenger Ruslan Chagaev was awarded a twelve round majority decision and with it the W.B.A. heavyweight title.
He was born in 1936 and he embarked on a professional boxing career in 1954. He won twenty five of his first twenty nine fights on his way to establishing himself as a top prospect by 1962.

De La Hoya - Mayweather prices skyrocket
      4/20/07 - Steve Arocho
According to TicketsNow (www.TicketsNow.com), the world's leading online marketplace for premium event tickets, the May 5th bout between Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr., one of the most anticipated and hyped boxing matches in recent times, is turning into an event on par with the Super Bowl in regards to ticket pricing and availability.

A True Rocky Story
      4/18/07 - Kerry Daigle
Lafayette/Alexandria……………..On May 12th at the Paragon Casino Resort in Marksville, Louisiana a professional boxing show will transpire that could potentially change the direction of one of two fighters in the main event.
Juan De la Rosa, with a professional record of 17 wins, 1 defeat, and 1 draw, will face a fighter with a losing record, Mikel Williams. Williams owns a record of only 7 wins against 18 defeats with 4 draws. How can this be a main event you ask?

BOBBY "THE BAYOU BOMBER" AUCOIN, THE USA IBU JR WELTERWEIGHT CHAMPION AS CO-MAIN EVENT IN A STAR STUDDED SHOW

RODOLFO " GATO " GONZALEZ
      4/13/07 - Jim Amato
You would think that a boxer who won his first 52 bouts would get some recognition. Especially if he won 50 of those fights by knockouts. Quite an impressive streak that Rodolfo " Gato " Gonzalez started in 1959. Nevertheless there would be many turns ahead for Rodolfo on the road to stardom.

Pavlik-Miranda preview & Virgil Hill, HOF ?
      4/7/07 - Jim Amato
On May 19th in Memphis, on the under card of the Jermain Taylor - Cory Spinks middleweight title fight there will be a battle to see who is next in line for a title shot.
I won't vote for Virgil Hill when he finally becomes eligible for induction into the Hall Of Fame. Granted there are lesser boxers inducted but that doesn't make it right.

In Rusty's Corner       4/6/07 - Rusty Rubin
Being a journalist, I’ve learned that the highest tribute that one can receive is positive comments about his endeavors in his chosen field of work. I thank everyone who has made those comments to me, either in person or other means of communication.
I recently got a letter from an 87 year old boxing guy from the Bay Area, William Leary. His kind words touched my heart. Thank you.

Carol Castellano passes
      4/1/07 - Howie Reed
I received the information this morning from Tony Castellano that his beloved wife Carol had passed on sometime last night. As you may not have known she has been hospitalized for some time with serious medical problems. She battled with a spirit and determination for the world champion person that she was.
