In Rusty's Corner
By Rusty Rubin, editor-in-chief of the Ringsports.com publication and website advisor is the author
of "Off the Canvas", #22873, a view of American history and the social problems of the times,
as seen by an 80-year old ex-champion. "Off the Canvas" takes you from the time of the Great
Depression till the World Trade Center disaster and is a book that has been getting rave reviews.
Copies are $15.00 each available at authorhouse.com, (22873)
Ringsports.com and on-line major book retailers.
We're taking orders for autographed copies
of "Billy Soose, the Champion Time Forgot" co-authored by Tom Donelson. Soose was the
middleweight champion of the world, beating Tony Zale and Ken Overlin in less than a month's time.
Since Tom and I live in
different parts of the USA, it would be hard to co-ordinate a joint signing, both Tom or I will
be available. The book is available now at Authorhouse.com
(book id #31809) and other fine on-line outlets. Early sales appear strong.
Buy both books and the recipient will really appreciate your caring, and this writer
won't complain one little bit.
My next book, "Woozel, Boxing and Me", #31810 a compilation of true
funny boxing stories, oddities and quotes, will be out within the next 3-4 months.
"Woozel, Boxing and Me" is a final tribute to my best friend of more than 25 years,
who attended many of the boxing events with me. She passed away from colon cancer in Feb. 2004... The
early demand for the book has been strong. For advance ordering or to purchase an autographed copy,
please advise me ASAP...***
All these books are available for purchase at Authorhouse.com.***

Don't mark your calendar for Evander Holyfield's return to the ring in August. Like so many others that
fight well past their prime, Evander, once an all-time great, has become an embarrassment to our sport,
and we shouldn't support him live or on TV. Maybe that's the only way he'll get the message.***
It was sad to see Roy Jones return to the ring and look pathetic in round one, against Prince Badi,
until finally un-tracking himself to take a one-sided unanimous decision. Still judging by the step-down
in competition, it's hard to gauge what Roy really has left.***
This week Rafael Marquez takes on Silence Mbuza at the beautiful Montbleu Casino in Lake Tahoe.
Take Marquez by close decision.
Brother Juan Manuel also sees action after being robbed via a hometown decision in Indonesia. Didn't see the
fight, but some good friends did and said it was a terrible decision. Juan Manuel seeks revenge and should
get it here, via an early KO.
It's a great card folks so if you're in the area, don't miss it.***
In NYC, Ike Quartey and Vernon Forrest get it on. Both fighters are on the comeback trail and this is a
major fight for both. I lean to Quartey here, but it should be a very close and exciting fight.***
Agree or disagree, we'd like to hear from you. (Rngsportsr@aol.com).
Glove2Glove:
Please say prayers for long time promoter and friend, Moe Smith, who has been having some ongoing heart related problems.
Patti Brandenburg continues to have health problems and continues to need your help via prayers.
Prayers for Mae Sebastian, who is fighting a serious illness. Mae is the wife of Gene Sebastian, who gave Tom
Donelson and myself the info needed to write the book "Billy Soose, The Champion Time Forgot".
Prayers needed for Elise Brown, grand daughter of Ringside Products head honcho and good boxing guy John Brown.
Young Elise has heart problems.
Prayers have also helped but continue to be needed for Dennis Wilcox, brother of boxing scribe David Wilcox,
who is in an Oregon hospital suffering from Leukemia. The family and everyone at Glove2Glove ask for your
prayers for his total recovery.
Prayers for the return to health of Audrey Talmo, wife of Ed, a long-time boxing fan who cares about our sport.
Please say prayers for the return to health of Helen Wambolt, wife of our East Coast World Boxing Hall of
Fame writer Danny Wambolt. Cards will also be most welcome.***
Please say prayers for the recovery of good friend and great boxing guy Norm Cote, Past President of the World
Boxing Hall of Fame, who is undergoing dialysis three times a week. Norm's a fighter and we have to be there in his corner.
Prayers also for former World Boxing Hall of Fame Presidents Dub Harris and Charlie Casas who are having some
severe health problems as well.
Prayers for the soul of Mike Quarry former boxer and brother of Jerry Quarry, heavyweight contender, who passed
away a few years back. Mike set up a foundation to help those afflicted with Alzheimer's which Jerry suffered from.
Prayers for the return to health of Don Donelson, father of writer Tom, and Gene Sebastian, brother of former
middleweight champ Billy Soose. Both are suffering from congestive heart disease.
Please say prayers for Phill Grazide of Santa Rosa, CA. a big supporter of amateur boxing, who is suffering the
crippling effects of rheumatoid arthritis.***
Needless to say we need prayers for the return to health of both former champs Greg Page and Gerald McClellan,
both confined to wheelchairs.***
Glove2Glove is a non-denominational group set up to aide those boxing folks and their relatives in need of prayers
and cards. We accept no money and only contact our members when someone is in need. It's absolutely free to join.
Simply send us your e-mail address. And even if you're not a member, feel free to contact us if you are aware
of some boxing person in need.***
Touching on politics briefly: A number of things worth commenting on: I know it's the 'Holy Land'. But wouldn't
lives and world peace be better served if we gave Israel our entire southern border which would eliminate the
hate and killing in Gaza, Lebanon and possible more middle eastern countries, give us more border security and
thus solve the immigration problem. Of course, few people would think that Israel would willingly give up
that area of the World, but it certainly is one way to establish peace in the mid east while solving our
problems on the border with Mexico.***
President Bush's way of dealing with terrorist states is quite childish. His let's ignore them and maybe they'll go
away, makes absolutely no sense. They are here and we have to deal with them in order to solve the many problems
in the world. Ignoring them is just a slap in the face to them and gives them another reason to hate us.***
Finally, in Iraq, does consolidating our troops in Baghdad not give the rest of the country to the insurgents,
and does little to solve the civil war in that nation. By getting rid of Sadaam we created the mess in that
region of the world, and perhaps a foothold for Al Qaeda.
Sadaam was a despotic tyrant, no doubt about that, but he kept order in Iraq, albeit through bloody means. Now
thanks to our 'kind intentions' we have helped create a civil war, with our troops right in the middle of it.
There is no simple right or wrong answer to this problem. Pulling out shows weakness on our part, and sending
more troops or keeping the status quo, clearly is not working either.
Support our brave troops!
Finally, for the first time in my extended life, I am considering not to vote any longer. Many great
Americans gave their all for us to have that freedom, yet my vote, as well as other Americans are,
in many States, cancelled out, by illegal aliens who get that 'right' just by showing identification
...This is nothing less than an insult to our brave lives who stepped up to the plate for all of us who value freedom.
Our troops giveth and our government taketh away.
Ah, hell, I'll vote. I Haven't missed an election since I was 21 (voting age at the time).
It would be disrespectful to those who gave their all, to give us that privilege, not to.
Agree, disagree or just want to help? I'd love to hear from you.
