In Rusty's Corner

By Rusty Rubin, editor-in-chief of the Ringsports.com publication and website advisor is the author of "Off the Canvas", #22873, a view of American history and the social problems of the times, as seen by an 80-year old ex-champion. "Off the Canvas" takes you from the time of the Great Depression till the World Trade Center disaster and is a book that has been getting rave reviews. Copies are $15.00 each available at authorhouse.com, (22873) Ringsports.com and on-line major book retailers.

"Billy Soose, the Champion Time Forgot" #31809co-authored by Tom Donelson, is also available. Soose was the middleweight champion of the world, beating greats like Tony Zale and Ken Overlin in less than a month's time. Since Tom and I live in different parts of the USA, it would be hard to co-ordinate a joint signing, both Tom or I will be available. The book is available at Authorhouse.com (book id #31809) and other fine on-line outlets. Early sales appear strong.

Buy both books and the recipient will really appreciate your caring, and this writer won't complain one little bit.

My upcoming book, "Woozel, Boxing and Me", #31810 (now available for purchase) is a compilation of funny and true boxing stories, oddities and quotes, will be out within the next few weeks. "Woozel, Boxing and Me" is a final tribute to my best friend of more than 25 years, who attended many boxing events with me. She passed away from colon cancer in Feb. 2004. The early demand for this true, and in my not-so-humble opinion, one of the funniest boxing books ever written, has been strong. For advance ordering or to purchase an autographed copy, please advise me ASAP.

All these books are available for purchase at Authorhouse.com.***

No one should be shocked that Paul Williams knocked out Sharmba Mitchell in an HBO televised fight on Saturday night. What could be considered a surprise is how easily he handled the former two-time champion, scoring a 4th round knockout.

Is Williams the real thing? He could very well be, but he's got the typical loose defense of the youthful fighter, and that can cost him. But if Williams learns to keep his guard up while throwing punches, look out.***

This Friday, in Sacramento, CA. Eric Regan takes on tough, undefeated Sergio Mora on ESPN.

These are two tough guys who generally give as well as take. Mora is the bigger banger, but Regan has a concrete chin. It's an interesting match-up on paper, and one that should prove exciting in the ring.

Not an easy fight to be sure. I'll take Mora to remain undefeated by a close decision.

Agree or disagree, I'd like to hear from you. (Rusty@ringsports.com)

Touching on politics briefly:

The minimum wage in California is going up to $8.00 an hour. Good idea? Yes, for those who are here legally and have earned the right to the increase in the minimum wage. But doesn't this also encourage more illegal aliens to cross the border into California, a State that is already badly hurt by people who don't respect our laws.

I'm referring to nothing more than crossing our borders is illegal.

Solution? How about $8.00 an hour as a minimum for those who belong here, $3.00 an hour for those who don't (overpaid)?.

$2.00 an hour for the over-paid members of Congress (all)? And have the President pay $50.00 an hour to our treasury for not doing the job we elected him to do.

Hey, that's a great idea. Forget the $2.00 an hour. They are over-paid enough. How about having Congress and the Senate do the same thing, donate to the treasury? That's one way to balance the budget, which these guys have long since forgotten how to do.***

Last week, CNN had an interview with a guy from London who recently converted to Islam, who said that "I love Bin Laden more than I love myself".

Fair enough, he has the right to believe whatever he wants.

However his most outrageous statement was something like: 'the war against the West is correct and we can kill innocent Westerners because they are killing innocent Muslims.

A bit of a different take on 'an eye for an eye', but it doesn't hold water. What innocent Muslims are the Western nations killing? The truth is that Muslims kill far more innocent Muslims than all the Western nations combined.

This Brit has the right to his own views, but he should learn how to read before wasting anyone's time by expressing them with wrong information.

If a person wants to hate us, we can't do anything about it. But to hate without a logical reason just shows how screwed up radical Islam really is.

Truth be told, how can anyone rationalize hate? Hate is a very dangerous emotion. And lies, no matter how many times you tell them, only sink in to those who are brainwashed and illiterate.

Of course some people can try to make the same argument about love. But at least we'd all feel safer if our brothers were trying to love us to death.

Agree, disagree or just want to help? I'd love to hear from you.
