In Rusty's Corner
By Rusty Rubin, editor-in-chief of the Ringsports.com publication and website advisor is the author
of "Off the Canvas", #22873, a view of American history and the social problems of the times,
as seen by an 80-year old ex-champion. "Off the Canvas" takes you from the time of the Great
Depression till the World Trade Center disaster and is a book that has been getting rave reviews.
Copies are $15.00 each available at authorhouse.com, (22873)
Ringsports.com and on-line major book retailers.
"Billy Soose, the Champion Time Forgot" #31809co-authored by Tom Donelson, is also available. Soose was the
middleweight champion of the world, beating greats like Tony Zale and Ken Overlin in less than a month's time.
Since Tom and I live in different parts of the USA, it would be hard to co-ordinate a joint signing, both
Tom or I will be available. The book is available at Authorhouse.com
(book id #31809) and other fine on-line outlets. Sales have been strong.
My newest book, "Woozel, Boxing and Me", #31810 (now ready to purchase) is a compilation of funny and true
boxing stories, oddities and quotes, will be out within the next few weeks. "Woozel, Boxing and Me" is a final tribute
to my best friend of more than 25 years, who attended many boxing events with me. She passed away from colon cancer
in Feb. 2004. The early demand for this true, and in my not-so-humble opinion, one of the funniest boxing books
ever written, has been strong. For advance ordering or to purchase an autographed copy, please advise me ASAP.
Being a journalist, I’ve found that the highest tribute that one can receive is positive comments about his
chosen field of work. I thank everyone who has made those comments to me, either in person or other means
of communication. Thank you.
As predicted, (for a change), Evander Holyfield sleepwalked through ten rounds against Fres Oquendo. If
either aging heavyweight impresses you, then it doesn’t take much to do so.
Also an easy pick, Wladamir Klitschko scored a TKO against Calvin Brock, who was competitive till round six,
where the Ukraine took control, started using his jab, and knocked Brock down and out in round seven.
This week, the only fight I’m going to comment on is one that will inspire you to think that pay-per-view
is a good investment. It is with some fighters, and Manny Paquiao and Erik Morales are definitely worth the investment.
This third and final match of the series is going to be a war, just like the other two. Morales moves
up to a more natural weight after the fight.
As good as Pac Man is, Morales toughest opponent that he has to overcome is the scale. He’ll make weight
easily, but will it take too much out of this proud Mexican?
Pac Man is one of the most dedicated fighters around, he doesn’t seem to ever be out of shape.
It’s a hard fight to pick with Morales at time of this writing a 2-1 underdog.
I’ll take Pac Man to win a decision in a war. Maybe HBO PPV and Top Rank should have labeled this event, World War III.
Finally, if you can find it in your heart to help keep the world famous Kronk Gym open, please e-mail me and
I’ll give you the address where to send your donations.***
Agree or disagree, (not about my age) I’d like to hear from you.

Touching on politics briefly: There were many messages sent to the newly crowned Congress and the White House
on certain State referendums. I doubt however, that they will change anything in the policies that matter most.
I give you Arizona, home of John McCain and Bill Richardson, two officials who figure to play a part in
the 2008 Presidential race.
Most of the measures (prop. 300) passed in this border state with a high Hispanic population, were sending
a message about illegal aliens and when a state with high legal Spanish heritage whose voters say English
should be the official language which tells you the feelings in at least one border State.
What will the newly elected Dems and the rest of Congress get out of this message? Nothing. They will pass
the President’s amnesty program and continue to give aide and comfort to those who are breaking our laws.
To be sure, stopping the bleeding (illegals) is a difficult issue, especially because the Hispanics are the
fastest growing group among our populace.
Is it too much to ask that someone without the gray matter between their ears, pay attention and do something
serious about our immigration laws that ignore the average citizen for the benefit of big business?
Probably, but if this is the only area they agree upon, and it may be, this Congress may get more done than
the last one, but probably not for the best interest of the voters. They put the rascals in, if they don’t
do the public’s bidding (their job), vote the rascals out.
Support our troops.
Have a great week.
Agree, disagree or just want to help? I’d love to hear from you.
