Battle Stations: Wilson vs. Davis Tonight!

“Ding-a-Ling Man” vs. “Koncrete” at Scranton CYC, and live on ESPN2.

The Scranton CYC Center will be no place for a nervous person tonight, as two of boxing’s hardest punchers, Darnell “Ding-A-Ling Man” Wilson and Kelvin “Koncrete” Davis will meet up for a guaranteed bombs away thriller that will also be televised live on ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights.

The sensational cruiserweight war will top tonight’s spectacular Duva Boxing-promoted, in association with Northeast Boxing, night of fisticuffs that will also feature up-and-coming Mike Marrone and Enrique “Scorpion” Gutierrez in televised duels.

“Tonight’s televised fights will be important steps for the careers of everyone involved,” said promoter Dino Duva. “We’ve got a sell-out crowd, and a national television audience, watching two of our most promising young prospects take steps up before one of the most exciting match-ups that could be made in all of boxing in the main event. Chris Coyne and Maury Mehne of Northeast Boxing have done a great job bringing world-class boxing back to Scranton.”

21-year-old undefeated heavyweight Marrone (16-0, 13 KOs) will face always durable veteran Jermell Barnes, while hard-punching 23-year-old welterweight Gutierrez (10-1, 8 KOs) will face Brazil’s Edvan Dos Santos Barros.

“Our two young kids appearing on television tonight are in tough against good competition. Barnes always goes the distance, so Mike is going to have to pace himself and stick to the game plan. On the other hand, Gutierrez will be looking to rebound from the only loss of his career against a guy who has decent power himself. These fights are not ‘gimmes’ for either guy. It’s a great show from top to bottom.”

Making appearances on the un-televised undercard will be once-beaten super middleweight prospect Marty Flynn (10-1, 5 KOs) taking on Dannon Svab (5-2-1, 3 KOs); lightweight Anthony Cusumano (1-1-1, 1 KO) against Shawn White (0-4); comebacking hometown light heavyweight veteran Chris Mills (26-2-1, 22 KOs) vs. Cullen Rogers (8-15-2, 4 KOs); and Pernell Whitaker-trained future welterweight champion Raymond Biggs Jr., (4-0, 4 KOs) vs. TBA.
