“WOOZEL BOXING AND ME” NAMED ‘BOXING BOOK of 2006’ BY 13THROUND.COM.
Reno, NV. Jan. 1, 2008...The holidays came early for veteran boxing writer Rusty Rubin, who’s
third book in two years, “Woozel, Boxing and Me” was named as the ‘Boxing Book of the Year’ by
website 13th Round.com.
“I guess three’s a charm” Rubin said, eluding to this being his third boxing book published in
the past two years. The other two books, “Off the Canvas” and “Billy Soose, the Champion Time
Forgot (co-authored by Tom Donelson) had strong reviews but didn’t win any honors.
“I first got word of this honor in early December” Rubin continued, but didn’t have the time
to get the word out, as I was leaving for a much needed vacation.
“This honor is of particular importance to me”, Rubin stated, because it’s a final tribute to
my late best friend, Susiey “Woozel” Walker, who shared many fun boxing moments with me. The
book also allowed me and some of my pugilistic cohorts the chance to cast some humor about a
sport that is usually devoid of fun moments.
“Even before the honor, I was asked by many folks to do a follow up on the book. This award
gives me even more motivation to do just that.
“I’d like to thank the fine folks at 13th Round.com, in particular those responsible for the
selection and honor they have bestowed upon me,” Rubin concluded.
