www.keeppunching.com An artist has no choice but to pursue his art because it is what he or she must do...it is a passion that surpasses understanding. "A fighter fights," says Rocky Balboa -- in the art of film. Fiction that is fact. Art -- sometimes -- imitates life and sometimes encapsulates it. Boxing films and stories are captivating because they do reflect the drama of real life on a stage. From the true fairy tale of Cinderella Man, to the one-and-only legend of ALI to the fictional yet truly inspirational Rocky, man's most primal instinct -- fight or flight -- one man versus another in combat has been recorded since the day David defeated Goliath. That fiction is fact for one real-life man in south Louisiana. A professional and master in the making, Bobby "The Bayou Bomber" Aucoin recently had his heart called into question. He raised eyebrows of medical professionals at Our Lady of Lourdes when they realized the man's 30-year-old' heart wasn't pumping as fast it should it have been -- during a 45-minute stress test that started with 100 sit ups, 100 push ups and moved along finally to a full sprint on the steepest and fastest setting of a state of the art treadmill. Shaking their heads and making sure the computerized read outs were correct, they called in a cardiologist. The diagnosis, like much of Aucoin's work, staggered the medical staff . And answered any questions about Aucoin's heart. "He's got the heart of a 20-year old that is either a decathlon or triathlon athletic competitor," concluded the cardiologist. "The slow rate and murmur is his blood rushing through his aorta with such force that it sounds abnormal....it's an athletic heart." The only thing abnormal about Aucoin's heart is its unbeatable condition and its undeniable desire.. Trying to measure it with a state-of-the-art computerized readouts isn't the benchmark. Like his canvas, Aucoin's heart is the oversized palate. It is the brush of a dream in the works..The masters of art, sport or entertainment always leave us that one God-given master piece of their character. "He can fight anyone anytime anywhere," says south Louisiana's grandfather of boxing John Stutes. "He looks like a little fella but he hits like a heavyweight. And he's got the heart of champion." As junior welterweight at 142 pounds, Aucoin is not an intimidating presence. He's pure Cajun with intelligence, an attitude of gratitude, an ever-present optimism and a respectful humility. He shares his heart and his dream with his wife Tiffinay. "She knew when she married me that she would married to boxing too," he says. "She is 100 percent behind me and she's always their beside me. With my training, my full-time job and my boxing career, it's tough." Tough? Try this regimen: Awake at 4:30 every morning (except Sunday), run as far you can in 30 to 45 minutes, come back to the house and get in a cardio workout with your wife. Get to work by 7 a.m. Aucoin works as a full-time salesman for Voohries supply. When he get's off at 4:30, he's off to the gym for three hours of sweat equity and training. Home at 8:30. Eat supper, spend some time Tiffiny. And start over. "He's determined and disciplined," she says. "He's 30 and chasing his dream. I knew that he would give 100 percent to being the best and that's why I'm behind him." Aucoin's hallmark is an accumulation of men laid out on canvas. So far it is a brilliant piece of work in progress -- 18 wins, one draw and 11 knockouts. “The Bayou Bomber’s” work will be on display May 12 at The Paragon Casino Resort’s brand new Mari Center.
