Seven boxers fro the Ragin’ Cajun Boxing Club prepared for the 2009 Louisiana State Golden Gloves by boxing tough Texas opponents in the Louisiana vs. Texas tournament this past Saturday night in Crowley, Louisiana.
68 lb. Dylan Landry, a fourth grader at Prairie Elementary, was the victim of atrocious scoring by the judges, losing a decision to Jeremy Salas of Houston.
Kaleb Vice (son of former World Jr. Welterweight champion, Kenneth Vice) gave Sergio Menazares of Houston a boxing lesson in the 132 lb. division. Vice looked well prepared for his attempt to win the Golden Gloves for the second time.
Brandon Schoeffler a thirteen year-old Edgar Martin Middle School, eighth grader looked to be the winner in his hard fought battle with John Salas of Houston in the 85 lb. weight division. The judges however thought otherwise. The capacity crowd let out a roar of disapproval as they were convinced that Schoeffler had won.
132 lb. St. Leo Seton student Bishop Campbell was out pointed by Zachary Belcher of Dallas in one of the evening’s most exciting bouts.
Smokey Guidry was dominant in his victory over Kenny Acevedo of Houston at 165 lbs.
Sixth grade Scott Middle School student, Eric Bui out-boxed and out-punched the much more experienced Eduardo Garcia of Houston in the 85 lb. weight division.
Bryce Landry, a seventh grader at Edgar Martin Middle School was victorious in his exciting decision over Gilbert Llamas of Houston in the 90 lb. weight class.
