Thunder and Lightning: Full Card Announced

On November 24, 2007, at the Paragon Casino Resort in Marksville, Louisiana, Keeppunching Entertainment will present "Thunder and Lightning", a night of professional boxing headlined by a 10-round female battle for the WIBA Junior Featherweight Championship between "The Fighting Marine" Kasha Chamblin (10-1, 5 KOs), of Lafayette, Louisiana, and Ada "Ace" Velez (15-3-2, 6 KOs) of Puerto Rico. Velez has the edge in experience, as she is already a two-time WIBA Champion, however, the formidable Chamblin will enjoy the support of her hometown fans. On the undercard, once-beaten Alexandria, Louisiana, lightweight Heath "Little Rocky" Nichols will take on Lafayette journeyman Jason Doucet in a six-round bout; Tough Texan Valerie Mahfood (19-13, 9 KOs) will face Fort Lauderdale's Yvonne Reis in a four-round women's middleweight bout; while Snyder, Texas's former amateur standout Michael "El Torito De Fiero" Martinez (4-2, 2 KOs) battles Nashville veteran Joshua Smith (17-35-1, 15 KOs) in a four-round junior middleweight scrap. Opening the evening's festivities will be a heavyweight four-rounder between Houston's Herman "Skip" Scott and Monroe, Louisiana's Donzell Atkins. Tickets are priced at $30 and $100 and are available at the Paragon and through Ticketmaster. Bell time is 7pm.

THUNDER AND LIGHTNING
NOVEMBER 24, 2007, PARAGON CASINO RESORT, MARKSVILLE, LA

MAIN EVENT FOR THE IBA JR FEATHERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP OF THE WORLD KASHA CHAMBLIN, LAFAYETTE, LA (10-1, 5 KO) VS ADA VELEZ, PUERTO RICO, (15-3-2, 6 KO)

Ada Velez has already fought for several championships and has won two world titles. She owned this title that is being fought for Nov 24. Will the least experienced tough Marine, Chamblin, take it home or will Velez re-claim her lost championship? The battle to be recognized as the very best in the world. This fight will be action packed for 10 rounds. Writers and sports columnists have called in to get the scoop on this one from as far as the United Kingdom.

HEATH NICOLS, ALEXANDRIA, LA (6-1, 5 KO) VS JASON DOUCET, LAFAYETTE, LA (4-10, 1 KO) LIGHTWEIGHTS

Don't let Doucet's record fool you. His pro debut was against world welterweight champion Miguel Cotto from Puerto Rico. His resume reads John Jackson, Tyrese Hendrix, Ira Terry, Tafari Beard, Ramiro Cano, among other top notch prospects. Doucet comes in with the experience against the best in the world while Nicols comes in with the puncher's chance. This will be contested for 6 rounds. To make this fight more interesting these two fighters know each other exceptionally well having sparred with each other many times.

VALERIE MAHFOOD, BEAUMONT, TX (19-13, 9 KO) VS YVONNE REIS, FT. LAUDERDALE, FL (6-12) MIDDLEWEIGHTS

This fight will be contested for 4 rounds of blistering action. Mahfood has recently come off of ESPN's "TV FIGHTS OF THE MONTH" against Mary Jo Sanders in what was the fight of the night on that particular card according to a letter written to Ring Magazine (Oct 2007 issue). Mahfood lost a 10-round decision for the world championship on national TV. Reis also has a loss to the world champion Sanders by decision. This could have been a main event or at least a co-main in its own right. The fans will be talking about this fight for a long time.

MICHAEL "EL TORITO DE FIERO" MARTINEZ, SNYDER, TX (4-2, 2 KO) VS JOSHUA SMITH, NASHVILLE, TN (17-35-1, 15 KO), JUNIOR MIDDLEWEIGHTS

Were we crazy to make this fight? A guy with 53 pro fights against a guy who just won 4 pro fights? A guy with 7 times more knockouts than the other guy? Six rounds where Smith has traveled many times fighting numerous world champions!! Well, Martinez has an amateur record of over 240 amateur fights winning several prestigious national championships and is one tough customer. Fear is not in his vocabulary. Smith's last two fights have come against Jason Papillion (38-12-1) from Lafayette, LA, and Antonio Mesquita (33-0) where he lost decisions. This also could have been a main event fight. All on the same card.

HERMAN "SKIP" SCOTT, HOUSTON, TX (0-1) VS DONZELL ATKINS, MONROE, LA  (0-4) HEAVYWEIGHTS

Check this out! Atkins looks like a body builder and is very strong and stands at 6' 2". Scott, on the other hand, is 6' 8" and weighs in at 258 pounds to Atkins' 235 pounds. Two big guys who are winless. Someone will go home with a win. Both are huge punchers. Atkins last fight was against the Croatian Olympian, Damir Tovarovic whom many people thought that Atkins won. Scott, who hasn't fought in over a year, lost his pro debut against Aaron Lyons (7-2, 6 KO) in a decision loss. That fight was a war and Lyons' toughest fight to date. This is a tremendously tough fight for both boxers. BOMBS AWAY with this one. Don't leave your seats early.
